Food For Thought!

Thursday, June 16, 2005
I know that "normal" is a relative word. I know that "family" is a sentence (via the Royal Tenenbaums.) I know that my father is a creature unlike any other and can't be appreciated in his time.

I'm plagued, nonetheless, and last night blew my top again. I really, REALLY, really, really need to get away.

My mom approached me last night and asked if after paying rent I had about $300 left over in my income. I thought she meant now, just once. I said yes. She nodded and said "Would you offer your dad that money for his car?" Confused, I said "What car?" She said "His new car."
**my dad is always wanting to buy a new car. it's his deal.**

Befuddled still, I said "You mean, one payment of $300?" Because you see, at this point, I'm actually willing to pay this crazy game of paying my dad money to ostensibly buy him a car. She says "No, $300 every month. He wanted me to ask you since you have a job now."

"No, mom. I don't have $300 to spare every month. After rent, I have about that much to eat, buy necessities, and god willing start a savings for my own!"

Then my mom's brilliant suggestion was that she'll pay the $300 every month, while we pretend it's my generous gift to my dear father. I bucked like a mustang who's been hit with a white-hot branding iron.

"NO! And if you don't tell him I'm not paying him, I'll say it! Don't give into his stupidity, it's making it GROW. You need to put down your foot now!"

She tried to reason that he's old and set in his ways but I growled.
"TOUGH. We've said that for years. Now I'm going to be 'set in my ways.' NO money, no lies."

UGH. I don't care if I'm being an unreasonable brat. I'm being used and manipulated.

I HATE THAT.
