Natch, the old man in "As Vishnu Dreams", was commenting on the fact that we techies always wear black every day. He then shared that when he wore all black, his daughter would lament and shout "Dad!" Then he would explain to her that he's in mourning.
"Mourning for what?" would be her reply. And Natch would say "Mourning for my fate."
Then he chortled as only he can.
Silly Natch.
