I wonder why it is that one must stay up till the wee hours of the night to "support" friends? I don't begrudge my friends for needing me. Not a bit. That's what being a friend means. It's just a curious fact that people run into their problems around 1 or 2 in the morning. Problems that take hours to mull over and discuss. I feel that I'm not very helpful when I'm fighting my hibernating instinct. My conversation with Courtney went something like this near the end:
C: Do you know what I mean?
G: Mmmph.
C: Are you there?
G:... uh huh....
C: What do I do?
G: Mrghle.
C: What?
G: (slightly wakened) What?
And I don't know how she convinced me to do it, but I ended up calling Robert to check and see if he's still awake. We figured out that he had his phone on, so he had to have received her emotional, and somewhat revealing messages. But he wasn't responding, thereby causing a crisis on our hands. I listened to his rather effeminate message (I have my doubts about this boy) and hung up. He called me back but I didn't answer since by then I was curled up in bed, cursing that school is already starting and that I had a morning class. This morning, I check my messages and I hear the indignant (I'm not only using this word to describe myself) voice of a boy barking "WHO?" into my voicemail. Lucky for you, Court, that my brother recorded my outgoing message. If not for the child's voice, I'm sure he would have realized that it was me calling. How crazy girls will act in the middle of the night. Guys, seriously, we stress over the smallest details. It's how we're wired. Don't mess with us, we're already on the edge of sanity.
I was surprised to find that Courtney and I have switched our previous roles. I used to be the one confused and melodramatic about boys. Now I'm the one with logical advice and stern warnings. Guys aren't that hard to understand once you figure out their ways. Girls are more devious creatures, I admit it.
Weird. My co-workers are talking about gray hair, and making bets on whose hair will turn completely gray/white first. I've got to start working and stop dawdling...
